Benefits of Becoming an Alumni Mentor

The COACH Mentoring Program enables alums to share their professional and personal experience and expertise with current HC students. The connections made in the program help prepare our students for a successful future, navigate uncertainty, and leave a lasting impact on our campus community.

As an alum mentor, you can provide the student(s) with academic guidance and career and personal development advice. Your insights on managing change and overcoming difficulty can be profoundly impactful, particularly during this time. Depending on the type of mentoring you choose, you are encouraged to connect regularly (e.g., once-a-month phone calls, in-person meetings if applicable, or email conversations); however, the frequency and form of communication are things you can determine together. Please refer to the Handbook for more detailed information.

You have something to offer whether you are right down the street or across the globe. Hanover is A Place to Belong. A Person to Become. We invite alums worldwide to be part of the COACH Mentoring Program and help make a difference.

How Do I Participate? Will I Be Matched?

  1. Alums will complete the Enrollment Form.
    • All alums who enroll are automatically active members of the COACH Mentoring Program.
    • Please note that mentor matches are based on the mentee's needs or classroom assignments. The integration of alumni into classroom assignments varies each academic term depending on faculty decisions.
  2. Go to your Alumni Profile to register or log in to update your information.
  3. Await correspondence from the COACH Mentoring Staff.
    • Before matching, you will receive an email from the Levett Career Center asking if you're still interested.
    • Throughout the academic year (August to May), the COACH Mentoring Staff will carefully pair every student with a suitable alum mentor, considering the student's responses on their enrollment form.
    • Once a student applies, a match will be made within 5-7 business days.
    • Once a match is made, an email containing your student mentee's name and information will be sent.
  4. Once matched, visit the online Welcome Packet (above) for further instructions on how to start with your student mentee.
