Benefits of Having an Alum Mentor

As a student or soon-to-be graduate, you are part of a family of individuals who have shared formative, rite-of-passage experiences and self-discovery on the same campus. We all know the Shoebox (Cabin back in the day), Happy Valley, and The Point. We all know the UG and WAC, long lectures, BINGO, late-night breakfast, and Vegas Night!  Regardless of the time or generation, you have shared experiences and connections.

As a student at Hanover College, you have a unique opportunity to tap into a robust network of alums eager to meet you and share their invaluable insights and advice on life beyond the point at Hanover College.  At the same time, the alumni want to know what's happening on campus, and you are the best one to tell them.

Imagine having someone who has walked the same path as you are now to guide you. Someone who can help you succeed in your academic pursuits, provide career advice, assist with personal development, and help you navigate life after Hanover. The COACH Mentoring Program allows you to establish meaningful, long-lasting relationships with Hanover alumni worldwide. You can stay connected with your mentor regularly through phone calls, in-person meetings, if applicable, or email conversations as mutually decided. So, take advantage of this program and make a great connection today.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Current students will complete the Enrollment Form.
    • All students who enroll are automatically active members of the COACH Mentoring Program.
    • Be as specific as possible when completing the enrollment form.
    • To leave the program, please get in touch with coachmentoring@hanover.edu.
  2. Await correspondence from the COACH Mentoring Staff.
    • Throughout the academic year (August to May), the COACH Mentoring Staff will carefully pair every student with a suitable alum mentor, considering the student's responses on their enrollment form.
    • Once a student applies, a match will be made within 5-7 business days during the academic year.
    • Once a match is made, an email containing your alum mentor's name and information will be sent.
  3. Once matched, visit the online Welcome Packet (above) to start getting started. Remember, you already have something in common with your mentor! They were in your shoes at one time!
